At the DE Leader’s meeting held in week 8 Daniel Rattigan, Principal Finigan SODE, provided a building progress update, including a video, of the new school building.
Mark Piddington, Principal Sydney DEHS, presented Daniel with photos of Walter Finigan who was the first Principal of the Blackfriars Correspondence school. Finigan SODE has been named after Walter Finigan recognising his significant role in distance education.
When Mr Finigan retired in 1949 many of the documents including photos were housed at Sydney DEHS. In this photo you can see the proud look on Mr Piddington’s face as he proudly and carefully passes on a photo of Walter Finigan to Mr Daniel Rattiigan.

DE Collegial Network news
An IT Multi media day is being held in term 4 to update the HSC Course – in particular a revision of the Industry Studies materials.

HALT (Highly Affective Lead Teacher) network update
This newly created network is being reinvigorated by a number of teaching executive from across three DE schools due to the need to appoint a new coordinator since the transfer of duties of Sueanne Matthews who established the network late last year.
Sharon Hodgson, SCSODE, Lisa Tonkin SDEHS and Teresa Naso NSWSOL will support each other in the coordination and progress of the network. More information will be provided soon.
Louise Woods, network coordinator, will invite DE teachers to the Legal Studies conference being conducted for rural and distance education teachers at Dubbo SODE in term 4.

SEAT (Student engagement and attendance) network update
The network members will be meeting at Sydney DEHS in term 4 to review their progress of learning materials creation, receive PL from a guest speaker and plan actions for 2019.
